What is ISIS and how did it rise?
Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), is a Radical Islamist organization, that has captured large parts of Iraq and Syria. It has killed 1000's civilians all over the world (Iraq, France, USA, Bangladesh etc..) with constant terror strikes.
ISIS rose to dominance only recently, but how did this phenomenon happen?.
In 1979, Russia invaded Afghanistan, Young Muslim men from all over the world came to defend it along with the rebels. Among the Rebels were the educated Saudi Arabian sheikh Bin Laden and Iraqi thug Zarqawi.
Bin Laden went on to create the global terror network, "Al Qaeda", which was the most feared terror unit in the early part of the 21st century. Bin Laden later orchestrated an attack on the twin towers in New York killing 2000. This initiated a series of events that lead to the rise of ISIS.
An angry US force invaded Afghanistan to capture Bin Laden and destroy Al Qaeda, Both Bin Laden and Zarqawi had to flee, to Pakistan and Iraq respectively, Zarqawi started the terror network Islamic State in Iraq.
Then USA decided to Invade Iraq, and kill Saddam Hussain. Political situation in Iraq was suitable for IS to rise, many Sunni Iraqi soldiers, and once jailed militants joined IS. IS grew in power now under the leader of Abu Bakar Al-Baghdadi, as Zarqawi was killed by a US drone.
Abu Bakar al-Baghdadi, used the situation in Syria to his advantage, sent his generals to recruit militants from there. IS captured territories in both Iraq and Syria, growing in to ISIS.
