What?
12 died of exhaustion and heat, while waiting in traffic in java region of Indonesia.
How?
Many Indonesians were returning to their houses to mark the end of holy month of Ramzan, unfortunately many converged in a single junction, this junction had building works that furthermore delayed the traffic.
All the three lanes got completely filled up the last three days of Ramzan, the traffic stretched up to 21 miles, almost all of those who died were elderly, they died of heat and dehydration, one infant died of poisoning from exhaust fumes.
Hotlines were provided to the passengers to call for medical emergency, but these was literally no way to reach them.
The Indonesian government has announced that the roads will be full during the month, and passengers were to stack up enough supplies, take breaks in between long drives.
And so
It's so heart wrecking to know something so common and harmless as a traffic jam could have killed so many people, we hope the Indonesian government builds enough roads to prevent such a tragedy from happening anytime in the future.
