Pellets are usually round but can
Also be irregular in shape, making it more
Dangerous.
What?
Rajnath Singh in his parliamentary address today has announced that alternative methods will be used to control mass unrest in places like Kashmir instead of pellet guns.
Why?
This comes after many incidents of people especially children getting injured, in some cases losing their sight, by the pellets.
How?
Pellet guns are loaded with hundreds of lead pellets, although they are considered non lethal and have been used before to control an unrest in Kashmir (2010), they are now known to cause serious injuries and are more lethal to small children. The pellets do not follow regular course and can disperse anywhere, shatter windows, enter houses, hitting unsuspecting citizens giving them no time to react. They are also capable of penetrating the soft tissue, eyes being a relatively fragile and superficial organ, can be affected by the pellets causing blindness.
And so
This is good news for the people of Kashmir who has one lesser threat to endure, and a good move by the BJP which is trying to win over the trust of Kashmirs as anti-India sentiments are still echoing in every corner.
