What?
Archeologist have found 1000 year old remains of Buddha in China.
Where?
These preserves were found under once renowned Grand Bao’en Temple.
How?
The skull so well preserved and decorated, that it was found inside a golden box decorated with lotus, which was inturn placed inside a silver box, which was inside a shrine (a hemispherical box) with pictures of angles, that was inturn held inside an iron casket, which was all found in a stone chamber with inscription written in it.
These inscriptions were written by a person named Deming, who was supposed to be the "Abbot of Chengtian Monastery [and] the Holder of the Purple Robe".
It says this shrine was build during the reign of Emperor Zhenzong, around 997 to 1022 AD, Deming goes on to praise the emperor for rebuilding the temple and buring the Gauthama Buddha's parietal bone, along with the remains of other monks.
The chamber also contains inscriptions, that show the life story of Buddha, leading to 'parinirvana' (death with no rebirth).
These remains were originally found in 2008, but they have come to attention of western media only now.
