Update- Juno has successfully latched on to Jupiter's orbit.
Juno is a solar powered spacecraft that will enter into Jupiter's orbit by June 4th, and is set to revolve around it for the next 20 months.

When?
It first initiated its journey in 2011, after a five year trek through space it has reached Jupiter, and all it has to do now is successfully to latch on to its orbit or it will fly past Jupiter failing its 1. 1 billion dollar mission.
How?
It will reduce it's speed for about 35 minutes, during when it will get attracted to Jupiter's gravity, and then its set to revolve around it 53 times.

Why?
Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system, it is also one of the first planets to have formed, so Juno can give us insights on how the solar system came to be, and about circumstances that led to the big bang, it can also detect water levels on the planet, give us information about its moons, figure out if Jupiter had a solid core, which is important to prove our theory about the formation of gas giants (Jupiter) in turn our solar system...
And so
Astronomer's are waiting with their fingers crossed for Juno to get placed on to the Jupiter's orbit, they will only know after 48 minutes as the signals take 48 minutes to reach here from there.
Update- Juno has successfully latched on to Jupiter's orbit.
What?
