The Indian cricket team in the past 25 years has seen lot of coaches from the great all rounder Kapil Dev, the controversial Greg Chappell, to Gary Kirsten, now the prestigious position of guiding the team has been given to "Jumbo" Anil Kumble, the highest wicket taker for India in international cricket (including tests and ODIs) and one of the two bowlers in the world to take a 10 wickets in a single innings.

The coach of the Indian cricket team was selected by a panel of Advisory Committee members, which constituted Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, the BCCI president Arun Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke. Each applicant competing for the position had to present their competency in front of the members.

What?
It wasn't easy for Anil Kumble as he had to compete with the likes of Ravi Shastri, Tom Moody etc.. But his toughest adversaries were the Advisory committee, even though it had some of his past team members and good friends. Kumble said that "it was very unnerving to stand and answer in front of them, especially Sourav Ganguly", he also added that though they used to be teammates this bunch was the most serious and most professional cricketers in all of India, and it was not an easy job to please them.

After his appointment there was some controversy with Ravi Shastri voicing his displeasure over Kumble's appointment. The members of the committee came to Kumble's rescue.
With Kumble taking over the job of head coach, and young and aggressive Virat taking over as the captain, and Dravid molding the "under 19 team", India certainly has a golden future to look forward to.
